Fundamental Distinctions of Haven Baptist Church

  1. The church membership is made up of only those who have been truly born again, through salvation which is in Christ Jesus.
  2. The ordinances of the church are Baptism and the Lord’s Supper. Baptism is by immersion, following one’s salvation. Baptism and the Lord’s Supper play no part in the act of salvation. They serve as a means to give testimony to one’s identification with Jesus Christ, in His death, burial, and resurrection; and to the fact that He is coming again.
  3. The church is an independent, autonomous church. The authority rests within the church. We believe that we can be most effective in serving God by being a local, independent Baptist church. We believe that by being independent, we can best emulate the New Testament Church.
  4. We are non-charismatic. We believe that tongues, prophecies, and sign gifts were given for the purpose of authenticating the teaching and preaching of the Apostles. Upon the completion of the Word of God these sign gifts ceased. (I Cor. 13:10) (Rev. 22:18-19)
  5. We believe that God’s desire for true believers is that they be counter-culture and separated completely unto Christ. The life style of the true believer will reflect the image of Christ rather than the influences of the world.
